I am very excited about sharing "Taking Care of You: Self-Care in a High-Stress Profession" at the Texas Volunteer Management Conference in May.
I'm also a little nervous. I've never talked about this in an official capacity, much less at a conference. So as I began drafting my message and creating the actual presentation I found myself going back to one thing.
What do I want to share with these individuals on a personal level? The real-life stuff. And what kept coming back to me is my story. I can't stand in front of a group of people without getting real. I mean, I could likely ugly cry when this comes out. There's no other way around it. But this is what I must do.
And you know what? The moment I hit that authentic light bulb moment, the presentation just poured out of me. It's when we are in that state of realness that the creativity flows DESPITE the vulnerability. Because it's the truth.
I'm still nervous. But I am ready because I'll be sharing from my heart. And that is what connects us.
